Monthly Research!!
To dissipate the high heat flux of 20 MW/m² in nuclear fusion reactor divertors, current research focuses on boiling cooling channels with airfoil-shaped structures. Airfoil-shaped fins can enhance heat transfer by increasing surface area and promoting efficient flow patterns, although they may also lead to higher pressure drops compared to traditional pin fins. Visiting KARI
Prof. Jo and his students visited the Microgravity Experiment Facility of the KARI, located in the Asan Green Tower in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do. The Microgravity Experiment Facility is a 150-meter drop tower capable of simulating microgravity conditions to study phenomena such as pool boiling and two-phase flow. During the visit, Professor Cho and Dr. Hoonkyo Oh shared the progress of their analysis on tank-to-tank liquid fuel transfer under microgravity using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), and provided technical consultation on the design of a single-tank microgravity experiment specimen being developed by KARI.
